Project by choreographer and theatre artist Ivana Peranic created through research and practice of choreographic work that has its origin in the performers’ bodies, feelings, states of mind and momentary circumstances and which can, but doesn’t have to be mentally elaborated and verbalized at the end of the creative process. Its basic creative principle was accentuating the experience instead of interpretation and explanation. The choreographic material has been slowly created and collected since 2010 in two different locations (London, Rijeka). Its first showing was a short movement solo piece Raw at the Croatian Dance Festival Platforma.hr (Zagreb, 2011).
This piece was further developed with a group of artists: dancer Ivana Kalc (Rijeka), musician and composer John Miller (London), video artist Ivan Dobran (Pula), costume designer Tajci Cekada (Rijeka) and Raw Extended 2103 was created as two dance and movement solos closely related and interconnected choreographically, musically and by video projections.
“When the body is in an open state, relaxed and alert at the same time everything is possible. Like a radio “admitter” it receives moves and vibes from the soul and the moment. It is not about doing. It is not about being. It is about being in doing and doing in being.” (from the working notes, the source unknown)
IN MEDIAS:
It is a new-media art project which was summarised by the author as an audio-video-body work. This description probably describes the best Peranic’s new work, which unites sound, picture and physical theatre. An art gallery was chosen as a performance space whose walls became a dynamical element of the performance. “Synthesis of the sound, picture and physical theatre/Sinteza zvuka, slike i fizičkog teatra,” Kim Cuculić, Novi list, 31 December 2013.
Ivana Peranic in her solo “Raw” showed an exquisite sense for rhythm, although the performance was carried out in complete silence and bold capturing of all the performance space, holding the attention of the audience during the whole time. “Platforma.hr: Updating the conceptions/Ažuriranje koncepcija”, Ivana Slunjski, kupus.net, 10 November 2011.
Raw by Ivana Peranić is a solo in silence, only having one loud punch of a fist on a wall, which is an interesting decision considering that the TASK required a work with a sound. Ivana Peranic showed enviable concentration and presence on stage, as well as a dynamic yet simple corporeality while moving in the silence, being moved by invisible network of profound experiences. “NOVIM STAZAMA Post festum: 12. Platforma.hr, Zagreb, 9 – 16 October 2011”, Iva Nerina Sibila, PLESNA SCENA.hr, 23 October 2011.
