Voice as body, text as music

Leader: Irena Tomažin

We will work on the voice through the body – the body is a voice instrument, the body resonates when we sing and the body carries a voice. Through physical exercises, or by coupling our own body and movement, we also come to our voice – we will observe and listen to how voice can be an extension and continuation of physical action. Trough exercises of breathing and body relaxation, we can resonate with the voice and listen, we can discover our own rhythms and melodies that we carry organically. Experimenting with the voice can lead us to the different faces and stories each voice has.

On the other hand, if we have a text and if we work with him as with the composition, we can embody it and achieve to sing it or just pronounce it, sending it to the space to resonate. If we approach it as a musical piece
we can achieve different text interpretations.

And finally, singing – we will be working on old songs, learning them and singing them simply, simplistic, and through them learn to sing and learn about the beauty of singing.

The voice has many bodies, and the body has many voices. The height of the voice depends on how you stand, and the depth depends on how high you fantasize.

You feel like you’re in consensus, just because someone else is singing by your side and something is vibrating in your chest. A little higher or a little lower. Depending on the body you’re in. Depending on your voice …

It feels like you’re not here because you are singing. Then, when you forget the text, you will knock on the door through which improvisation and innovation will enter. Therefore, just follow the rhythm, and the rest will follow. You might hear the voice that runs away from you and who wants to play with you. If you have the text, but you do not have a melody, you just have to back up and endure silence – you have to listen to it for as long as your mumbling becomes the rhythm, melody, until it deceives you and bites you. You should be brave to be able to hear. Just open the door and start to play.

Take a nice outfit for the workshop where you can move freely and stretch, warm socks and a bottle of water. Also, prepare a short text – it may be a theatrical text or some other one that you are interested in and want to work on, essentially it has to be the excerpt of a larger entity.
